KUALA LUMPUR: A tanker carrying a load of palm oil skidded and landed on its side after its brakes malfunctioned and failed at Km28 of the Karak Highway.
Gombak police chief, Assistant Commissioner Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir, said the driver escaped unharmed.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident occurred today at around 12.30am. The victim, a 41-year-old local man, was driving the tanker alone from Kelantan to Port Klang, transporting a load of palm oil. Upon reaching the location, the tanker's brakes malfunctioned and failed, causing the vehicle to lose control and veer off the road. The victim was unharmed. The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
He added that members of the public who witnessed or have information about the incident are urged to come forward to assist with the investigation by contacting traffic investigation officer, Inspector Pavinar Krishnamurthy, at 017-4424699 or the Gombak police at 03-61262222.
