ALOR STAR: The number of flood evacuees in the state has risen overnight to more than 3,500 across four districts as flood conditions worsen.
A morning update from the Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that, as of 8am, 3,503 evacuees from 1,141 households are taking shelter in 23 temporary flood relief centres (PPS).
This marks an increase from the 3,322 evacuees from 1,083 households recorded at midnight.
Kubang Pasu is the worst-hit, with 1,324 evacuees from 459 families relocated to nine PPS, up from 1,316 at midnight.
This is followed by Kota Setar, where 1,197 evacuees from 373 families have been moved to eight PPS, an increase from the earlier figure of 1,052.
In Pokok Sena, 549 evacuees from 195 families are being housed in four PPS, up from 521.
In Pendang, 433 evacuees from 114 families recorded at midnight remain in two PPS.
Meanwhile, the Drainage and Irrigation Department's Public Infobanjir website indicates that five rivers across three districts – Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, and Pendang – have breached danger levels and are showing a rising trend.
