Nine Kedah rivers breach danger levels, flood evacuees increase overnight

ALOR STAR: Nine rivers in five districts in the state have breached danger levels after heavy rain overnight, with water levels still rising at 8am.

According to the Public Infobanjir website by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, the affected rivers are located in Kota Setar, Pendang, Yan, Kubang Pasu, and Baling.

In Kubang Pasu, three rivers have exceeded the danger level, which are Sungai Bata in Kampung Bata, Sungai Padang Terap in Kepala Batas, and Sungai Laka in Kampung Padang Pasir.

In Kota Setar, three rivers have also reached dangerous levels which are Sungai Anak Bukit at Jambatan TAR, Sungai Kedah at Jambatan Lebuhraya, and Sungai Anak Bukit at Taman Aman.

The remaining rivers are Sungai Ketil in Kampung Baru, Baling, Sungai Titi Kerbau in Kubur Panjang, Pendang, and Sungai Gurun in Kampung Perupok, Yan.

Meanwhile, the number of flood evacuees in the state increased overnight to 439 from 122 families across four temporary flood relief centres (PPS) in Kubang Pasu and Pendang at 8am.

According to the Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat data, this marks a rise from 305 evacuees sheltering in three PPS recorded at 8pm yesterday.

Kubang Pasu has 252 victims from 80 households taking refuge in three PPS, while Pokok Sena has 187 from 82 households in one PPS.
