GOF thwarts cattle smuggling attempt in Pasir Mas

PASIR MAS: A lorry driver was arrested for possessing 15 heads of cattle worth more than RM100,000 here on Thursday, suspected to be smuggled from Thailand.

General Operations Force Southeast Brigade GOF Commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the suspect was detained at Kampung Kubang Bemban.

The lorry used to transport the cattle was also seized.

He said a GOF team from the Seventh Battalion flagged down the lorry at about 6.50pm.

"After checking the lorry, they found the 15 cattle weighing about 7,500 kg and later arrested the 31-year-old suspect.

"The cattle was believed to have been smuggled into the state," he added.

On another note, he said the GOF seized 129 pieces of imitation jeans worth nearly RM20,000 in Rantau Panjang on Thursday.

However, he said no one was arrested in the operation at Pok Mat illegal jetty.

"A car driver fled the scene on foot in the 6.30pm operation, leaving the vehicle behind.

"After checking the car, the GOF personnel found the 129 packages containing imitation jeans," he added.

He said the jeans were believed to have been smuggled from Thailand for local distribution.
