LANGKAWI: Two restaurants located on the island's popular Pantai Chenang beach were destroyed in a fire last night.
Langkawi Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Zamri Abdul Ghani said firemen from the Padang Mat Sirat, Persiaran Putra and Langkawi fire stations were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call about 8.11pm.
"The officer-in-charge reported that upon arriving at the scene, a restaurant was engKotulfed by fire and the fire had spread to an adjacent restaurant, resulting in 90 per cent of damage.
"A car was also affected by the fire but with minor damage and no injury was reported in the incident," he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Langkawi police chief Assistant Commissioner Shariman Ashari said a team of five police officers and 20 policemen were deployed to the scene to manage traffic after being alerted about the fire.
"The firefighters managed to bring the fire under control by 11.30pm and no casualties were reported in the incident.
"The Fire and Rescue Department is investigating to determine the cause of the fire," Shariman said in a statement.
