Two killed, four injured in pickup-lorry collision

TEMERLOH: Two people were killed, while four others, including a child, were injured in an accident involving two vehicles at KM145 Jalan Kuala Lumpur – Kuantan near Kampung Desa Bakti at 1.20pm today.

The two deceased were a 79-year-old local man, who was driving a Toyota Hilux pickup truck from Taman Rimba, Mentakab, and his passenger, a 46-year-old Chinese national. They died at the scene.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Hassan said the pickup truck also carried three other passengers aged 65, 69, and 9 years old, respectively. They were injured and are being treated in the red zone at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the accident occurred when a trailer driven by a 63-year-old man from Kuantan heading towards Kuala Lumpur collided with the pickup truck coming from Kuala Lumpur.

"As a result of the collision, the driver and one passenger of the pickup were pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel," he said here today.

He added that the trailer driver, who resides in Bagan Ajam, Penang, also sustained injuries and was sent to the same hospital.

"The accident is still under further investigation, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
