'Wettest town in peninsula', but Taiping not immune to dry season

TAIPING: Although Taiping is known as the '"wettest town in Peninsular Malaysia", it is not immune to the effects of the dry season.

It is reported that Taiping has not received rain for over a month, a highly unusual occurrence.

Checks revealed that certain areas in Taiping Lake were so dry that one could walk on them, the cracked mud exposing dead snails.

Zakri Yusoff, 60, a visitor from Kuala Kangsar, expressed his astonishment at the situation, noting it had never happened before.

"Since I was a child, my family and I have come here to relax, especially during school holidays.

"Although I'm not a resident here, to the best of my knowledge, I've never seen the Taiping Lake this dry.

"Today, I was shocked to find that the water level has dropped by more than half, revealing the lake bed," he said.

To preserve the lake's condition, he suggested that the authorities undertake excavation to deepen it, which would allow for various water activities to be carried out even during the dry season.
