KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysia Day celebration will feature two major events in Ranau, Sabah.
On Sept 14 and 15, the Malaysia Day Paragliding Accuracy Championship will be held at the Ranau Paragliding Park in Jalan Kompleks Sukan.
The Sabah Paragliding Association (PLUS) said the event was open to all Malaysians and international participants who had a minimum PL1 paragliding licence and insurance, and were in good health.
"(For additional requirements), only pilots approved by PLUS officials will be considered for the competition.
"The entry fee is RM150 for Malaysians and RM200 for international participants.
The prizes for the open category event are RM1,500, RM1,000 and RM700 for first to third place, respectively."
Meanwhile, the Sabah Camping and Caravan Association will organise the second Sabah Camping Fest from Sept 13 to 15.
The association said the event would take place in the beautiful valleys of Ranau, where participants can engage in activities such as tug-of-war and volleyball. They can also contribute to orphanages in the district, it added.
The first festival, held in October last year at Kampung Pahu Kiulu, had 500 participants, including from Brunei, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.
"The main objective of the event is to encourage local communities to learn about sustainable tourism and to recognise iconic places with a potential for sustainable economy," it said.
