KUALA LUMPUR: Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, today launched his third book, titled 'Globalization: Perak's Rise, Relative Decline, and Regeneration'.
The 566-page hardcover book offers a thorough
analysis of globalisation's impact on Perak over two centuries. Sultan Nazrin provides insightful suggestions for stimulating the state's economy and enhancing the welfare of its residents.
In the book, Sultan Nazrin compares Perak with other resource-rich regions, such as Cornwall and Sheffield in the United Kingdom, and Pittsburgh and Scranton in the United States.
"Some may ask why I wrote a book on globalisation and why now? This idea partly arose during research for my previous book, as the unique nature of Perak's experience became evident.
"I wanted to explore further, taking a closer look at the state's historical development and how globalisation processes have shaped it," he said.
Sultan Nazrin believes that a long-term perspective can provide deeper insights into Perak's current situation and the various challenges it will face. This is especially so during this period of increasing global uncertainty.
He hopes Perak can look forward to lasting prosperity.
His Majesty also expressed his appreciation to Prof Tim Harper for coming to Malaysia to take part in the launch and to the Oxford University Press team.
This is the third book authored by Sultan Nazrin, with the first titled 'Charting the Economy: Early 20th Century Malaya and Contemporary Malaysian,' published in January 2017. The second book, titled 'Striving for Inclusive Development: From Pangkor to a Modern Malaysian State,' was published in July 2019.
Also present at the event were the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief editor Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.
