RANAU: Despite a viral video showing a landslide at Mount Kinabalu, district Fire and Rescue Department station chief Ridwan Mohd Taib confirmed no casualties were reported.
The incident occurred in the Ulu Sg Mesilau area inside Kinabalu Park.
"We did not receive any emergency calls. However, after receiving the video, we conducted monitoring activities.
"There was no access to the landslide site, so monitoring was done using drones," he said.
According to the Sabah Parks official in charge, the landslide occurred on June 23 around 1.20 am, followed by a mudslide at 5am the same day.
Fortunately, the landslides did not affect nearby villages.
Meanwhile, it was reported that climbing to the summit at 330am was not allowed due to rain.
Kundasang assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam reassured the public that the area remained safe.
"It went viral only on social media, but it was not a major occurrence," he said.
