KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has recorded a statement from social media user Adeline Chang over an offensive post involving a child.
MCMC, in a statement today, said this was in response to a complaint it received against the Facebook user, who allegedly uploaded a picture of a child with an offensive caption.
The commission said Chang had her statement recorded at the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters near here on Friday.
"Earlier, MCMC issued a Notice to Appear to the suspect according to the established procedure.
"The suspect's SIM (subscriber identity module) card and mobile phone used to upload the content were seized to assist in the investigation," the statement read.
The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides a maximum fine of RM50,000, imprisonment for up to one year, or both upon conviction.
"This section prohibits the transmission of communications through network facilities or application services that are, among other things, offensive, obscene, or indecent, with the intent to annoy or harass others."
It reminded the public to be cautious before uploading or sharing any content, especially those involving children.
