KLANG: The paint-dumping incident which turned water flowing in Sungai Kandis blue is believed to have been a one-off act of irresponsible quarters.
State Department of Environment director Nor Aziah Jaafar said investigations indicated that the dumping was done either late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
"DoE officers were at the scene yesterday and investigations are underway to trace the person or persons responsible for the incident. At the location in question, we found traces of spills or splashes from the discharge of coloured material from a hose.
"Investigations also found that the source of the coloured material was not from any of the factories in the area, so we believe that someone from outside the area released the material and that it was a one-off case," she said.
Nor Aziah said, as of yesterday evening, the river was still running blue.
"Samples have been taken to identify the composition (of the colouring) and for matching purposes. We will be sending people to the location today as well to check on the situation, especially since there was heavy rain yesterday.
"DoE will heighten monitoring so as to prevent a recurrence of this incident," she said.
It was reported that the incident was first discovered at 12.30pm yesterday.
Lembaga Urus Air Selangor said a team was immediately despatched to the scene to trace the source of the colouring.
