[UPDATED] Cops say haven't ruled out foul play in deaths of woman, newborn in Kulai

KULAI: Police have not ruled out foul play in the deaths of a woman and her newborn whose bodies were found along Jalan Impiana 5, in Taman Impiana, Kulai, yesterday.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee said post-mortem examinations on both bodies had been completed, though the cause of the deaths remain under investigation.

"The findings (of the examinations), including cause of death, are still pending. However, there were no elements of crime detected during our preliminary investigations.

"It too soon to rule out anything at the moment, let us conduct our investigations thoroughly first,"he said.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the identity of the woman, though she is believed to have been Indonesian.

The victim was found dead by the roadside yesterday morning, clutching the lifeless body of a newborn boy.

She is believed to have died of birth complications, while the infant was found with its umbilical cord still attached.

There were no visible injuries on either the woman or the infant.

Tan urged witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

"We ask anyone with information to contact the nearest police station or investigating officer Inspector R. Arun at 013-3332385," he said.
