KULAI: The bodies of a woman and a newborn boy were discovered by the roadside in Taman Impiana Kelapa Sawit today (Jan 7).
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee said police received a call from a member of the public, who reported that a woman was lying motionless near Jalan Impiana 5.
Police and forensic officers from the Johor police contingent headquarters were dispatched to the scene.
Upon their arrival, they found a woman lying on the ground next to a baby boy, with its umbilical cord still attached.
Tan confirmed that both had died at the scene after a medical officer's examination.
"Initial investigations suggest that the deceased woman is believed to be a foreigner. There were no external injuries observed on either body, and a placenta was found near the scene," he said in a statement today.
Both bodies have been sent to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
The case is being investigated under Section 316 of the Penal Code, for causing the death of an unborn child, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.
Tan urged witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
"We ask anyone with information to contact the nearest police station or investigating officer, Inspector R. Arun at 013-3332385," he said.
