PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has secured a three-day remand extension for a senior state government official over allegations of bribery involving Sarawak construction projects worth RM250 million.
However, Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said, no remand extension was granted for the company director who had also been initially arrested in connection with the case.
"Investigations are ongoing, as it has been only two weeks (since the probe began)," he said after attending the International Anti-Corruption Day event here today.
"We have recorded statements from 21 individuals and frozen 25 bank accounts.
"We also seized RM40,000 from the senior government official in question."
On Friday, it was reported that MACC obtained a four-day remand order against a state government official and a company director with the title "Datuk" over alleged involvement in bribery connected to RM250 million worth of construction projects in Sarawak since 2022.
They were arrested on Thursday under Section 17 of the MACC Act 2009.
MACC said the two suspects had conspired to allow several companies to win construction contracts from a Public Works Department district office.
Both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and may also face drug-related charges.
