Woman's part-time job scam turns into a RM123,780 nightmare

BATU PAHAT: A woman fell victim to a non-existent part-time job scam advertised on Facebook, losing RM123,780 in the process.

The 40-year-old woman's ordeal began on Nov 27, when she came across a part-time job, offering a 30 per cent commission on each e-shopping transaction.

Enticed by the offer, she contacted the advertiser via WhatsApp, and was added to a group chat. She was required to purchase items from a specific website.

Between Nov 28 and Dec 1, she made seven online transfers to seven bank accounts, amounting to RM123,780, to purchase the items.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said she did not receive any of the purchased goods, and grew suspicious when her 'employer' requested additional payments to release her promised profits, which she declined.
