Trader's investment dream turns into RM800,000 nightmare

BATU PAHAT: A trader here lost RM800,000 after being conned into investing in a company bidding for a non-existent tender to supply food to schools.

The 48-year-old victim's troubles began after meeting the suspect behind the syndicate last year.

At that time, the victim was offered a chance to invest in a company bidding for a contract to supply food to schools from July 1, 2023, to Oct 31, 2025.

He was promised a 17 per cent return on his investment.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said that between Oct 1 and Oct 4 last year, the victim handed over cheques to the suspect.

"However, until the report was lodged yesterday, he had not received a single sen."

Realising he had been cheated, the trader lodged a police report. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
