KUALA LUMPUR: A motorcyclist berated Road Transport Department officials for detaining him during a roadblock last night.
The man, in his 20s, was initially stopped at the roadblock mounted on Jalan Bangsar when his motorcycle did not have a front registration number.
At first, he made excuses that the machine belonged to his friend, but further checks revealed that he also did not have a valid driver's license.
Visibly unhappy that his motorcycle would be impounded, the man behaved rudely and questioned the authority of the RTD personnel.
Upon further investigation, the RTD also found that the motorcycle was found to have a fake registration number.
RTD deputy director general (planning and operations) Datuk Jazmanie Shafawi said they checked over 5,000 vehicles during the operations which began at 9pm.
"A total of 150 personnel were part of the joint operation, which included the National Anti-Drug Agency, Immigration Department, National Registration Department and police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department.
"We checked 5,169 vehicles and took action against 1,431 vehicles for various offences, including not having a driver's license, not having valid road tax, not having vehicle insurance coverage, and illegal modifications.
"We issued 1,369 summons notices and seized 62 vehicles during the operation," he said, adding that two undocumented migrants were also detained.
He said the Nada also performed urine tests on 20 individuals, of which two tested positive for drugs.
