KUALA LUMPUR: Police have seized RM4.18 million worth of drugs following the arrest of two men in Sri Petaling.
Federal Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Khaw Kok Chin said the two men were caught red-handed with packages containing the drugs at the lift lobby of a condominium about 3.30pm.
"A team from Kuala Lumpur NCID conducted the raid which led to the arrest of the two men aged 21 and 25.
"Based on our investigations, the two men were hired to be storekeepers for a drug syndicate," he told reporters at the City police headquarters.
He said, when the two suspects were arrested, police found three packages.
"They checked these packages and found multiple packets containing methamphetamine and heroin inside.
"Police were then led to a condominium unit where they found another 115 packets containing methamphetamine and 40 packets containing heroin," he said, adding that they seized 124kg of methamphetamine and 21kg of heroin in total during the raid.
Khaw said the drugs were estimated to be worth RM4.18 million and could supply 728,000 users.
"Our investigations revealed that the older suspect was paid RM5,000 to store the drugs while the younger suspect acted as his assistant.
"The older suspect has a prior record for crime and drug related offences," he said, adding that the suspect also tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is one of the main active components found in cannabis.
Khaw said they believe the syndicate has been operating since the middle of the year and the drugs were meant to be distributed within the Klang Valley area.
"Our checks revealed the suspects had rented a Perodua Myvi car in order to deliver the drugs to buyers.
"We are now working on identifying the syndicate's network, including remaining members still at large," he said.
