KAJANG: Police arrested a drug runner hauling RM10 million worth of methamphetamines at a fast food restaurant a Kajang Perdana here.
The 25-year-old suspect had over a quarter ton of drugs stored in the back of his sports utility vehicle.
Federal Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Commissioner Datuk Seri Khaw Kok Chin said a team from Bukit Aman and Selangor NCID had trailed the suspect for some time before arresting him at around 8.38pm on Oct 12.
"We caught him at the parking lot of a fast food restaurant and when we inspected his car, we found 15 sacks of rice stored in the back seat and boot area.
"In each sack we found 20 packets of herbal tea containing 315kg of methamphetamines worth RM10million," he told reporters today.
He said that based on checks, the suspect had six prior records for drug offences and crimes.
"Our investigations revealed that the suspect acted as a runner for the drug syndicate.
"We believe he was supplied with the drugs from a neighbouring country," he said, adding that the suspect was paid RM10,000 per trip.
Khaw said the drugs seized could supply 1.58 million drug users if it had hit the streets.
"We believe the suspect stored the drugs in the sports utility vehicle and drove around delivering the drugs to buyers within the Klang Valley area.
"This syndicate has been active since early this year," he said adding that the suspect has been remanded until Oct 18 to help with further investigations.
He said they were investigating how the syndicate received its drug orders.
Khaw urged the public to channel any information on drug activities to the NCID hotline at 012-208 7222.
