BAGAN DATUK: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) raided an illegal warehouse used to store diesel in Kampung Melayu Jenderata, Hutan Melintang, Perak, yesterday.
Its director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said the raid, part of Ops Tiris, was conducted by a team of enforcement officers from the ministry's Teluk Intan branch at 12.18pm.
Kamalludin said after a week of surveillance, a lorry tanker was spotted entering the premises, suspected of transferring fuel believed to be diesel into a skid tank.
"During the raid, KPDN seized a skid tank containing an estimated 5,500 litres of liquid suspected to be diesel, a drum holding 50 litres of diesel, a fuel pump, a four-wheel-drive vehicle, and a lorry tanker.
"The total value of the confiscated items is estimated at RM280,539. A 53-year-old man, who claimed to be the owner of the illegal warehouse, failed to produce an authorisation letter, licence or permit to store controlled goods from the Supply Controller," he said in a statement today.
He added that KPDN would continue to carry out enforcement activities through a new initiative known as "Kita Gempur".
"This initiative is a strategic government measure to build a mass movement in fighting business manipulation, including the misappropriation of controlled goods, online fraud and monopolies, and the existence of cartels," he said.
