Imam killed in Sitiawan crash was avoiding an eagle

MANJUNG: An imam who died in a crash near Sitiawan here on Tuesday was believed to have been avoiding an animal on the road.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Hasbullah Abd Rahman said the victim was believed to have lost control of his Perodua Kembara sports utility vehicle while avoiding an eagle.

Nurul Kamal Zulkarnain, 37, died in the 4.35pm incident at

Km211.8 of the West Coast Expressway (WCE).

"The victim's vehicle swerved off to the left road shoulder and then crashed into an area with palm trees on the left side of the expressway.

"As a result of the crash, the victim was trapped in the vehicle before being rescued by the firemen.

"However, the man was pronounced dead at the scene," he said adding the case is investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

It was reported yesterday that Nurul Kamal, who is the imam of the As-Siddiq Mosque, died in the crash after visiting his wife who had just given birth at the Seri Manjung Hospital.

The deceased was also a Takmir teacher with the National Anti-Drug Agency (NADA) in Seri Iskandar.

He was on his way back to Seri Iskandar to pick up another child from school.

Nurul Kamal leaves behind a wife and three children – a two-year-old son, and two daughters, aged four, and two days, respectively.
