JOHOR BARU: The father of the man who attacked the Ulu Tiram police station in May, was charged with a new charge at the Sessions Court here today.
Radin Imran Radin Mohd Yassin, 62, was accused of possessing a book titled Hakikat Islam dan Hakikat Syirik by Abu Sulaiman Aman Abdurrahman, which is related to the terrorist group Islamic State.
He was charged under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum imprisonment of seven years or a fine, and the possibility of forfeiture of any items involved.
Deputy public prosecutor Yazid Mustaqim Roslan filed the new charge during the mention of the case today.
Earlier, the deputy public prosecutor requested the court to grant a discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) for Radin Imran from the previous fourth charge, which was similar, on technical grounds.
Judge Rasidah Roslee granted the request before the new charge was read out to the accused.
No plea was recorded from Radin Imran, who nodded in understanding when the charge was read to him before the judge.
The court set Sept 24 for mention of the case at the same Sessions Court, before it is transferred to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
The deputy public prosecutor requested a new mention date before the transfer to allow time for the delivery of a terrorism expert report, as they needed approximately another month to complete it.
Earlier, four more accused were brought to the Johor Baru Court Complex under tight police security around 8.40am.
These included Radin Imran's wife, Rosna Jantan, 59, a Singaporean, as well as his three children Radin Romyullah Radin Imran, 34; Farhah Sobrina Radin Imran, 23; and Mariah Radin Imran, 19.
On July 31, the Sessions Court ordered one of the five family members involved in the attack on the Ulu Tiram police station to receive treatment at a hospital after symptoms of depression were detected.
Judge Rasidah Roslee made this decision after Faizal Rahman, the lawyer representing all five accused, requested that the fifth accused, Mariah Radin Imran, 19, be referred to the hospital for treatment.
On June 19, five family members of Radin Luqman, who attacked the Ulu Tiram police station and killed two policemen, faced nine separate charges, including encouraging terrorist acts and instilling the Islamic State ideology.
No plea was recorded after all nine charges were read in front of Sessions Court judge Datuk Che Wan Zaidi Che Wan Ibrahim.
Radin Imran is facing four charges.Radin Romyullah, who is Radin Imran's eldest son is facing two charges; while Rosna, Farhah Sobrina, and Mariah are facing one charge each.
For his second charge, Radin Imran is charged with supporting a terrorist act by keeping firearms in the form of four homemade air guns to carry out IS terrorist activity, which is under Section 130J(1)(b) of the Penal Code.
He and Radin Romyullah were also charged with supporting the IS by pledging their loyalty to a leader of the terrorist group, Abu Bakar Al-Baghdadi.
This charge is under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code.
Radin Romyullah, who is the second suspect was charged with owning a hard disk containing material related to the IS terrorist group and terrorist actions and was charged under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code.
Rosna, Farhah Sobrina and Mariah were charged for intentionally not giving any information related to the offence committed under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code and Section 130G(a) of the Penal Code.
They were charged under Section 130M of the Penal Code.
If convicted, all accused could face an imprisonment term between seven and 40 years, a fine, or both, and all property used in committing the alleged offences can be confiscated.
The offences were allegedly committed at a house at Jalan Rabani, Kampung Sungai Tiram, in Johor Baru, between April 2017 and May 17, 2024.
