ALOR STAR: The remand for the Myanmar man suspected of killing his wife and two children has been extended by another seven days until Sept 2 to facilitate investigations.
The extension of remand for the 43-year-old was issued by magistrate Nur Syifa Mohd Hamzah at the Alor Star Court Complex today.
It was reported the man, an ethnic Rohingya, is suspected of killing his wife and two children, with slash wounds found on their throats at two separate locations within the district.
The bodies of his 34-year-old wife and 10-year-old daughter were found in a drain behind an abandoned building near Pekan Simpang Kuala here on Aug 19.
The body of his 2-year-old son was found at Pantai Leman, Kuala Kedah, on the next day.
The police detained the suspect at Masjid Al Hidayah, Bukit Pinang here at 9pm on the day his wife and eldest child's bodies were found.
The suspect is believed to have walked about 17km after killing the three family members.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect acted under the influence of drugs and was emotionally distressed, as the family of five lived in dire conditions and were homeless.
However, the suspect did not harm his 5-year-old son who accompanied him to the mosque.
Drug screening found the suspect tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine and morphine.
