MUAR: The prime suspect allegedly involved in the recent triple murder and arson case in Pagoh has been remanded for seven days, starting today.
Magistrate Fatin Dalilah Khalid issued the remand order on the 48-year-old man to facilitate investigations under Sections 302, 436, and 326 of the Penal Code.
The man, who is also the eldest son of two of the victims, arrived at the Muar Court Complex at 9.13am, heavily guarded by police officers.
He was arrested in the Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur at 1am today, wandering alone with a bag of clothes.
The arrest was made by police officers from the Muar district police headquarters in collaboration with the Johor police contingent headquarters following gathered intelligence.
Following the last Friday's murder-cum-arson case, the suspect is believed to have fled to the capital city by bus, after abandoning his motorcycle at the Bentayan Bus Terminal in Muar.
Police viewed the CCTV footage from the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) bus station and captured him there.
Last Friday, a fire broke out at a house in Kampung Paya Redan, Pagoh, which claimed the lives of three family members.
The victims were identified as Mohamed Nor Mohamed Yassin, 82, his wife Ara Abd Hamid, 76, and their granddaughter Noradriana Nor Hasyim, 11.
Another victim, 14-year-old Norazmina Mohd Radhi, survived.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Noradriana had suffered a skull fracture, believed to have been caused by blows from a wooden object.
Her sister, who is currently receiving treatment at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital, sustained head injuries requiring eight stitches and a fractured right wrist.
Initially classified as a sudden death investigation, the case was reclassified as murder following the post-mortem report.
