KUALA LUMPUR: The investigation papers into a news report concerning an alleged reshuffle in the police force will be referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers within this week.
City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said police had recorded statements from four people, including journalists from Malaysiakini.
"We have recorded statements from four individuals and the investigation paper will be referred to the A-GC this week," he said after presenting medals at a ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters here today.
On Aug 6, Malaysiakini published a report stating that Bukit Aman was allegedly reshuffling its leadership, an allegation which Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Hassan described as "fake news".
Two days later, three journalists were summoned to the Dang Wangi police headquarters to have their statements recorded.
Since then, media associations such as Gerakan Media Merdeka (Geramm) and the National Union of Journalists Malaysia have come out saying they were strongly opposed to any action which could jeopardise a journalist's ability to protect the identity of their sources.
Earlier, 61 Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Negara (PJPN) service medals were awarded, including to one senior police officer, five serving policemen and 55 retired policemen.
The PJPN is awarded in recognition of heroism, sacrifice, and service to the nation during the Emergency in Malaya from July 12, 1948, to July 21, 1960.
Those who also served during the communist insurgency in the peninsula from June 17, 1968, to December 2, 1989, and in Sarawak and Sabah from 1962 to October 17, 1990, are eligible to receive the medal.
