Federal Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said the operation began when a team from Bukit Aman NCID arrested two men in the parking lot of a condominium in Cheras at 2:10 am.
"The two suspects, both 22, were in the process of loading drugs into a car when we arrested him," he told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters here today.
He said following that arrest, police raided two condominium units in Cheras and Seri Kembangan.
"During the raids, we also seized an assortment of drugs worth RM5.02million comprising 165kg methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), ketamine (9kg), ecstasy(7.5kg), Erimin 5 pills (4.5kg), drug laced candy (3.5kg), cocaine (1.6kg) and 485g of syabu.
"Both suspects were believed to have been paid RM4,500 and RM6,000 monthly for their respective roles as a runner and storekeeper respectively," he said.
He added that preliminary investigation showed that the syndicate was believed to be operating for at least three months and distributed drugs to nightclubs within the Klang Valley area as well as northern and southern regions.
The drugs, he said, were believed to have been sold in individual packets for between RM120 and RM300.
Later on the same day, a team from Bukit Aman NCID launched two raids near Desa Petaling between 2.40pm and 5.30pm.
"We first arrested a man, who was in a car, at a parking lot at Desa Petaling and found 120 packets of drugs in his Proton Preve.
"The packets contained 126.18kg of syabu worth RM4 million.
"We then conducted a followup raid at a condominium in Kuala Lumpur and arrested another man," he said, adding that one of the suspects acted as a transporter for the drugs while the other suspect was a storekeeper.
He said all suspects, in both cases, have been remanded for seven days to help with further investigations.
"The cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act for drug trafficking," he said adding that police also seized three vehicles in connection with these cases.
He said the drugs were believed to have been smuggled in by way of land from a neighbouring country up north.
