Malaysia's mobility future at KLIMS 2024

MALAYSIA's flagship international autoshow returns from a six-year hiatus, hoping to wow more visitors this time with its emphasis on sustainability, electrification and autonomous driving.

This year's Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS 2024), which also came a decade from KLIMS 2013 after switching from "motor" to "mobility", has plenty to offer the visitors from Dec 5 until Dec 11.

There are close to 70 exhibitors covering some 30,000 square metres of the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre's floor space over two levels.

Organiser Malaysian Automotive Association expects at least 250,000 visitors, which would surpass the 2018 edition.

Participating car brands include Perodua, Proton, Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Mazda, Kia, GWM, MG, Xpeng, Aion, Peugeot and Leapmotor. Modenas, Kawasaki, Royal Enfield and Harley-Davidson will bring their two-wheelers.

Opening Day

KLIMS 2024's opening day was held last Wednesday, attracting over 800 attendees who  witnessed several exclusive vehicle debuts during the day.

The vehicles included GWM's WEY 80 and Tank 500, Perodua's concept EMO-II, Nissan's Kicks e-Power and XXX, Toyota's Camry Hybrid and Corolla Cross Hybrid, Mazda's C60 and CX80, and Kia's Sportage.

MG Motor unveiled the Cyberster, GAC Aion introduced its GAC M8 and ES models, and Honda showcased the iconic Prelude. Proton presented the e.MAS 7 as well as S70 R3 team car fresh from the Sepang 1,000km race.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said KLIMS 2024 underscores a profound transition from traditional modes of transportation to innovative, sustainable and integrated mobility solutions.

It highlights Malaysia's commitment to creating a greener, more efficient and inclusive future, with the automotive sector playing a central role in the nation's energy transition.

"We are focused on building a sustainable future for the generations to come. Transportation is not just vital for achieving our sustainability goals, but it is also a key contributor to our economy," Fadillah said before launching KLIMS 2024.

The automotive industry, he said, remains a cornerstone of Malaysia's economy, contributing about four per cent to the gross domestic product and employing over 700,000 individuals.

Mohd Samsor Mohd Zain, KLIMS 2024 chairman and MAA president, said the event serves as a bridge between local and global players, facilitating partnerships and showcasing cutting-edge automotive technology.

"This exhibition highlights the diversity of innovations in the mobility sector, from two-and three-wheelers to future-focused solutions. It also provides a crucial platform for local manufacturers to connect with global industry leaders," he added.
