KUALA LUMPUR: Award-winning singer Shila Amzah has claimed that her former manager "sabotaged" her singing career in China a few years ago.
In a recent news report, Shila, 34, revealed that she had been blacklisted by Hunan TV after her former manager negotiated several collaborations with the television station without her knowledge.
Shila, who recently appeared in a brief video on Weibo, added that her former manager failed to inform her about scheduled events with Hunan TV, leading to accusations of a contract breach and her subsequent blacklisting.
"My former manager caused a huge stir with this matter. The directors at Hunan TV were annoyed with me because they had scheduled several events, but I was unaware of them," she said.
Shila initially planned to address this but decided against it due to a lack of confidence.
"Watching my old I Am A Singer videos upsets me," she said.
"I almost gave up due to the challenges I faced, many of which were caused by my former manager's actions."
Shila added that despite the challenges, she assured her fans that she was "in a better place emotionally" and was taking good care of herself.
The mother-of-two also said that her new manager was now looking for opportunities for her to make a comeback in China.
"I'm in the midst of working on some new songs and albums, including a Chinese one.
"I have new goals and dreams, and I hope everyone will continue supporting me.
"No matter how hard it gets, I believe there will be better days ahead," she said.
Shila, the daughter of veteran singer, actor and television host Datuk Amir Amzah Salleh or ND Lala, achieved huge success in China after finishing third in I Am A Singer 2014.
Her power-packed vocals captivated fans around China, and boosted her followers on Weibo from a thousand to over 2 million.
