Gamuda's Australian unit wins RM1.8bil EPC job for solar farm in Australia

KUALA LUMPUR: Gamuda Bhd's Australian subsidiary, DT Infrastructure, has secured a A$625 million (about RM1.8 billion) contract from Lightsource bp Renewable Energy Investments Ltd to develop the Goulburn River Solar Farm in New South Wales, Australia.

Goulburn River's 585 MWp capacity is the first solar farm project to be delivered by Gamuda under the DT Infrastructure brand in Australia.

The scope of works for this engineering, procurement, and construction project includes civil, structural, and electrical infrastructure required for the solar farm.

According to Gamuda, the Goulburn River project is a fantastic example of New South Wales continuing its significant investment in renewable energy, aligning with the Australian government's target of achieving 82 percent renewable energy in the nation's electricity grids by 2030.

"We are delighted to be partnering with Lightsource bp on the Goulburn River solar farm.

"We look forward to contributing our expertise to delivering best-in-class renewable energy solutions and driving positive outcomes for the local community, the energy sector, and Australia's carbon reduction targets," the group said in a statement.

Gamuda said once operational, the solar farm will generate enough renewable energy to power approximately 225,000 homes.

It is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 910,000 tonnes each year, significantly supporting Australia's sustainability goals.

Site access date for the Goulburn River Solar Farm project is expected to commence by Jan 2025.

Gamuda also noted that the group has been making strong strides in Australia's renewable energy market.

In Sept 2024, the group was awarded the RM702 million (AUD243 million) Boulder Creek Wind Farm project in Queensland under DT Infrastructure.

While its Gamuda Engineering Australia arm, in a joint venture with Ferrovial Construction, signed an early contractor involvement (ECI) agreement in Nov 2024 with Alinta Energy for the multi-billion-dollar Oven Mountain Pumped Hydro Storage project in NSW.
