KUALA LUMPUR: After being hampered by injuries in recent seasons, national diving programme technical director Bryan Nickson Lomas is pleased with Nur Dhabitah Sabri's progress in the lead up to the Paris Olympics.
Though she has yet to rediscover the level of form that took her to fourth place in the women's 3m springboard individual event at the Tokyo Olympics, Bryan said she has been showing encouraging signs in training recently.
Dhabitah will again be competing in the 3m springboard individual event, which starts on Aug 7 in Paris.
"In terms of training performance, Dhabitah looks solid," said Bryan when contacted today.
"She looks like she is ready to compete. This is probably due to her experience as she knows how to handle the situation.
"In competition, she has yet to score 300 this season though it has been challenging for her due to a number of reasons.
"But before they entered the Games Village, we conducted trials and she was able to score 281 and 283 under a strict scoring system. We believe she can exceed 290 after this.
"Our goal is to see her reach the final in Paris. To qualify for the final she must consistently be able to score in the region of 280."
This will be Dhabitah's third appearance at the Olympics afte Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. She scored 326.15 to place fourth at the latter.
The 25-year-old has, however, struggled with injuries over the past few seasons. A wrist injury forced her to withdraw from the women's 10m platform synchronised at the Fukuoka World Championships last year.
A tricep injury hampered her performance at the Doha World Championships this year while she suffered from a fever at last month's Australian Open.
Both Dhabitah and Bertrand Rhodict Lises, who will compete in the men's 10m platform individual (Aug 9), have entered the Olympic Games Village in Paris.
