Ziyad breaks Asian record to recapture world shot put title

KUALA LUMPUR: Former paralympic gold medallist Ziyad Zolkefli regained his world title in the men's shot put F20 (intellectual impairment) category at the World Championships in Kobe today.

Ziyad won the gold on a 17.43 metre throw, which was also a new Asian record, at the Kobe Universiade Memorial Stadium.

The previous Asian mark of 17.29m had also been set by Ziyad en route to winning gold at the 2017 World Championships in London.

This is his third career world championships gold after also winning it in 2013.

France's Soane Luka (15.92m) and Ecuador's Jordi Patricio (15.80m) settled for silver and bronze today.

The world championships will run until Saturday.
