KUALA LUMPUR: The Perak FA (PAFA) could join Kelantan FA (KAFA) and Perlis FA (PFA) on the FA of Malaysia's (FAM) suspension list following complaints of irregularities in its recent congress.
Former PAFA vice-president Datuk Yadzan Mohammad has called on FAM to act decisively, citing parallels with KAFA's suspension last month.
In December, FAM suspended KAFA as an affiliate and instructed the association to reconvene its congress and elections for the 2024-2028 term after two affiliates were not invited.
"KAFA's membership was suspended because two affiliates were excluded from their congress-cum-elections. The same action should be taken against PAFA," Yadzan told Timesport.
Yadzan highlighted a similar objection from Kuala Kangsar FA (KKFA), which claimed it was excluded from PAFA's congress despite fulfilling its financial and registration obligations.
"KKFA has submitted an official objection letter. If FAM acted swiftly on KAFA, why not on PAFA?
"Suspending PAFA's membership until they hold a proper meeting would ensure fairness and harmony," said Yadzan.
A formal complaint regarding the matter was filed with FAM last Friday and is currently under review by the governing body's legal department.
"PAFA's case mirrors KAFA's, so it's essential to apply the rules consistently," Yadzan added.
Yadzan noted that the unresolved discrepancies could disrupt the FAM congress-cum-elections on Feb 15.
"The question is, will PAFA be eligible to send a representative to the FAM elections?" he asked.
With KAFA and PFA already suspended, only 18 affiliates are currently eligible to vote in the FAM elections.
Should PAFA also face suspension, the number could drop to 17.
This development raises questions about FAM's authority under the Sports Development Act (SDA).
Sports lawyer Nik Erman Nik Roseli clarified FAM's role as football's governing body under Section 23 of the SDA.
"The power to revoke or suspend membership lies with the sports body itself. However, disputes between members should be resolved internally through FAM statutes and related codes," said Nik Erman.
