KUALA LUMPUR: Thailand's Buriram United team manager Newin Chidchob took a swipe at Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) ahead of a potential rematch in the AFC Champions League Elite (ACLE).
In a social media clip, Chidchob audaciously declared that the Southern Tigers stand no chance against his team if they meet again.
He even urged JDT's owner, Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, to invest in more high-calibre foreign players.
"We can play them again. They have no chance of surviving next time. JDT aren't that much stronger than us. I have to say that the standard of football in Malaysia isn't the same as in Thailand.
"The standard of the foreigners at JDT is... well, let me say this, JDT's owner should invest more so we can have a fun match next year," said Chidchob.
In response, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, offered a surprising acknowledgment on X by saying: "He (Chidchob) speaks the truth. The Thai League is stronger and better. The intensity is higher, and the football infrastructure, especially the pitch, is superior. Congrats."
Earlier this month, there was a heated ACLE match between Buriram and JDT at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium which ended in a goalless draw. JDT received two yellow cards and two red cards while Buriram were flashed four yellow cards and one red card.
