West Ham United forward Michail Antonio has undergone surgery on a lower limb fracture following his involvement in a road traffic accident, the Premier League club said on Sunday.
After the accident in the Essex area on Saturday, Antonio was taken to a central London hospital, and the club said the 34-year-old was conscious and communicating, and in a stable condition.
Antonio, a Jamaican international, has been at West Ham since 2015 and has played in every league game this season.
"Everyone at the Club wishes Michail a speedy recovery and wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the football family at large for the overwhelming support shown since yesterday's news," the club said on social media.
"As well as extending a heartfelt thank you to the emergency services and first responders who attended to Michail in the immediate aftermath of the incident, and the medical team who continue to aid him in his recovery."
West Ham's next fixture is a home game with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.
