KUALA LUMPUR: British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has apologised for interrupting Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim during an interview following the team's 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town.
Sheeran faced criticism on social media after stepping onto the pitch, where Amorim was being interviewed by Sky Sports presenter Kelly Cates, alongside pundits Roy Keane, Izzy Christiansen, and Jamie Redknapp.
Amorim was speaking when Sheeran interrupted to greet Redknapp before leaving, an act some fans said was disrespectful.
In an Instagram post, Sheeran, a minority owner of Ipswich Town, apologised and said he hadn't realised Amorim was being interviewed.
"Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday. Was popping to say hi and bye to Jamie. Great game, congrats to all involved," he said.
Sunday's match marked Amorim's debut as Manchester United manager, ending in a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town.
