Kinoshi to take charge of Selangor after Serbia exit

KUALA LUMPUR: Japan-born Katsuhito Kinoshi will be appointed as the new head coach of Selangor.

Kinoshi recently stepped down as assistant coach of the Serbian national team, making himself available for the Super League side.

In a statement, the Serbia FA confirmed his departure.

"The match against Denmark in Leskovac on Nov 19 was Kinoshi's farewell from the national team."

The governing body also revealed that after discussions with Serbia head coach Dragan Stojkovic, Kinoshi accepted an offer to lead Selangor, the 33-time Malaysia Cup champions.

"After consulting with Stojkovic, he has accepted an offer from Selangor and will assume the role of head coach at the club," the statement added.

The Red Giants have been without a permanent coach following Nidzam Jamil's resignation a few weeks ago.

Selangor are expected to make Kinoshi's appointment official soon.

Meanwhile, Selangor were held to a 1-1 draw by Sri Pahang in the Malaysia Cup last-16 first-leg match at Temerloh Stadium on Saturday.

Sri Pahang took the lead in the 27th minute through Sean Selvaraj, but Nikola Jambor salvaged a late equaliser for Selangor in the 83rd minute.
