FAM hints at mixed Harimau Malaya squad for AFF Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) has hinted that a mixed Harimau Malaya squad could feature in next month's AFF Cup.

The tournament falls outside the Fifa international window, meaning some M-League clubs might not release their players.

FAM secretary general Datuk Noor Azman Rahman revealed that national caretaker coach Pau Marti Vicente will finalise the squad after today's friendly against India.

However, Azman remained tight-lipped about the availability of core players, raising uncertainty over their inclusion.

"We'll have to wait for Vicente's official announcement next week," said Azman.

Other countries might face similar issues since their domestic leagues are still running.

Meanwhile, FAM has confirmed that Malaysia's home fixtures in the AFF Cup will be held at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

"Yes, it's confirmed. The matches will be played at the National Stadium," said Azman.

Malaysia are in Group A with Cambodia, Timor Leste, Thailand and Singapore.

Harimau Malaya will open their campaign against Cambodia in Phnom Penh on Dec 8 and face Timor Leste in Bukit Jalil three days later.

Malaysia will then travel to Bangkok to take on Thailand on Dec 14, followed by a home game against Singapore on Dec 20.

Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore are expected to vie for the top two spots to advance to the semi-finals.
