KUALA LUMPUR: The appointment of a new coach for the national football team, Harimau Malaya, falls under the purview of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).
Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said FAM has a committee responsible for making decisions related to this matter.
Yeoh said this when she was asked if the ministry would be involved in the appointment of the new Harimau Malaya coach following Kim Pan Gon's resignation.
"This one is (under the purview of) FAM. They have the committee to make a decision (on the appointment of a new coach)," she briefly said in a press conference at the Parliament building here today.
Kim yesterday announced his resignation as Harimau Malaya's head coach due to personal commitments despite his contract only ending in December next year.
The 55-year-old South Korean said he could not share detailed reasons for making the drastic decision to resign from the national football team.
He also said he had shared the reasons for his resignation with FAM president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin.
