KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) must show no fear when they take on South Korea's Gwangju FC in tomorrow's Asian Champions League Elite (ACLE) clash at Yongin Mireu Stadium.
Although Gwangju lead the east region group with six points from two matches, second-placed JDT, on four points, have the quality and experience to spring a surprise.
While the cold weather may impact JDT's rhythm, they need to set that aside and aim for the three points.
The arrival of former Real Madrid star Jese Rodriguez is expected to lift JDT's spirits.
Rodriguez will likely partner Jose Obregon and Arif Aiman Hanapi in attack tomorrow.
The forward showed his class by scoring during an 8-0 friendly win against Singapore's Balestier Khalsa at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium recently.
"Rodriguez is in excellent condition and has a strong chance to start. He's a professional player, and everyone knows his capabilities. I still have one more day to finalise my selection," said JDT coach Hector Bidoglio.
Bidoglio's side will need to be wary of Macedonian forward Jasir Adani, who has netted four goals in the competition so far, while Brazilian import Thomas Bedinelli will also pose a threat.
"We have analysed Gwangju's high-intensity game. They will try to hold possession and dominate us. However, our focus remains on our own game, as we also aim to control possession.
JDT's midfield, likely led by Natxo Insa, will need to dominate and disrupt Gwangju's play with aggressive pressing.
In defence, Eddy Israfilov is expected to partner Shahe Lowry, while former Real Sociedad goalkeeper Andoni Zubiaurre will likely start in goal.
Bidoglio must instil tactical discipline and high-intensity play to counter Gwangju's aggressive style as the South Korean side aim to maintain their lead at the top of the group.
