KUALA LUMPUR: Former Harimau Malaya head coach Kim Pan Gon has warned Malaysia not to place too much pressure on the current national team coaches.
Pan Gon fears that excessive pressure placed on interim head coach Pau Marti Vicente will affect his ability to prepare the national team for upcoming competitions and disrupt the playing style that he has already imparted on the team.
"What we have done (during his time with Harimau Malaya) is very good," said Pan Gon during a recently television interview.
"This has happened before with Vietnam. When the coach (Park Hang Seo) achieved success with them, his replacement (Philipe Troussier) was under pressure.
"His replacement struggled, the next one was the same. There was a lot of pressure.
"We should not place that kind of pressure on Pau Marti, we have to give him time so he can excel.
"Certain kind of pressure is fine, but too much and it will kill him."
Pan Gon unexpectedly resignation from his position as Harimau Malaya head coach last week.
During his 28 months guiding the team, Malaysia qualified for the Asia Cup and improved its world ranking from No. 154 to No. 130.
Pan Gon's next destination is unclear, however, he has been lined with a move to K-League champions, Ulsan Hyundai.
