KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has reduced the RM100,000 fine on Selangor FC to RM60,000 after the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah made his feelings known on the controversy.
Following Selangor's withdrawal from the Charity Shield against JDT on May 10 in the aftermath of the acid attack on Faisal Halim and threats made to team officials, MFL fined Selangor FC RM100,000.
Earlier this week, MFL also docked the Red Giants three points and ordered them to play their home match against JDT behind closed doors. Selangor also have to pay MFL and JDT for "losses incurred".
However, this has sparked a public outcry as the punishment was deemed excessive.
In a social media statement today, the MFL announced the reduction in the fine.
"This reconsideration is a gesture of respect and compliance with Sultan Sharafuddin's decree. The decisions taken by the MFL Board are as follows:
"The fine has been reduced from RM100,000 to RM60,000. Compensation payments to cover the losses incurred by the home team, JDT, and administrative costs will be maintained. MFL will compile the necessary information and costs submitted by JDT and the MFL secretariat for review and further discussion with Selangor FC.
"The deduction of three points in the 2024-2025 Super League season has been rescinded. However, any recurrence of similar infractions by Selangor FC will result in the matter being referred to the disciplinary committee, potentially leading to stricter penalties," stated the MFL.
Selangor fans will also be allowed to attend their home game against JDT at MBPJ Stadium in November.
Selangor FC have been given a three-day period from today by MFL to lodge an appeal.
