Sze Fei-Izzuddin win 'Battle of Malaysians' in New Delhi

KUALA LUMPUR: Men's doubles Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani edged their Malaysian compatriots Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King 25-23, 21-19 to reach the India Open quarter-finals on Thursday.

The world No. 2 were made to toil for 44 minutes before overcoming the world No. 23 in 44 minutes in the second round.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin's win was their second in as many meetings, having beaten Arif-Roy King at the same stage in the China Open last year.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin will meet Taiwan's world No. 25 Lee Fang Chih-Lee Fang Jen in the last eight. Fang Chih-Fang Jen are noted for upsetting world No. 5 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik at the Malaysia Open last week.

However, Sze Fei-Izzuddin have a 4-1 head-to-head record against the Taiwanese duo, and should be able to sail into the semi-finals of the Super 750 event.

The quarter-finals will also see Aaron-Wooi Yik meeting world No. 101 Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Kittinupong Kedren of Thailand, who stunned Indonesia's world No. 4 Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto 24-22, 16-21, 21-16 earlier.
