Sze Fei-Izzuddin shoot up to world No. 2

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's men's doubles Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani have soared to their career-best ranking of world No. 2.

The latest ranking today offers some consolation to the professional pair who suffered a disappointing first round exit in last week's Malaysia Open where they lost to Denmark's world No. 26 Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin moved up one rung, overtaking China's Liang Weikeng-Wang Chang who slipped to third. Denmark's Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen maintained their world No. 1 position.

This will be the perfect boost for Sze Fei-Izzuddin to do well in this week's India Open.

Their compatriots, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, moved up from No. 6 to No. 5 while another Malaysian pair, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, remained at No. 14.

Meanwhile, independent men's doubles Nur Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong breached the world's top 30 for the first time, coming in at No. 29.

Malaysia's top women's doubles, Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah dropped one rung to No.7 following their Malaysian Open first round loss to Indonesia's Lanny Tria Mayasari-Siti Fadia Ramadhanti.

Mixed doubles Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei achieved their career-best world No. 3 ranking after improving by two spots following their impressive run to the Malaysia Open semi-finals.

The rise in world ranking and their promotion to top seeds in the India Open following the withdrawal of China's world No 1. Yan Zhe-Dong Ping have boosted the Malaysian pair's stature.

Meanwhile the husband-wife mixed doubles team of Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai rose two rungs to world No. 4, thanks to their run to the Malaysia Open semi-finals. Yan Zhe-Dong Ping remained top of the rankings followed by another Chinese pair, Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin, in second spot.

In the men's singles, independent player, Lee Zii Jia, dropped two rungs to world No. 8. The Paris Olympic bronze medallist, who missed the Malaysia Open due to an ankle injury, will also sit out the India Open and the Indonesia Master next week.
