KUALA LUMPUR: Men's doubles Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun were the last Malaysian hopes to take to the court at Axiata Arena on Saturday.
But they fell too, meeting the same fate of mixed doubles Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai and Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei who were all eliminated in the semi-finals earlier in the day.
World No. 14 Wei Chong-Kai Wun were defeated by China's world No. 18 Chen Bo Yang-Liu Yi in the last four stage.
Initially, there was some hope when Wei Chong-Kai Wun won the first set 26-24. But Bo Yang-Liu Yi exerted control eventually to win the next two sets 21-16, 21-15.
This meant that the final day of the Malaysia Open on Sunday will see no Malaysian players. The last Malaysian to win a title in the Super 1000 home event was Lee Chong Wei in 2018.
Though Wei Chong-Kai Wun beat Bo Yang-Liu Yi in straight games at the Asian Championships last year (their only meeting), they could not repeat the feat.
The China pair seemed to have done their homework. Showing a solid defence, Bo Yang-Liu Yi neutralised the homesters' attack in the next two games.
Kai Wun said: "They managed to break our rhythm and started playing solid. We lost control of the match.
"We need to try to vary our attack in order to kill rallies rather than just smashing.
"I think they gained confidence from their strong defence where they won a lot of points," said Wei Chong.
