KUALA LUMPUR: Rosman Razak, the soon-to-be national women's doubles coach, will decide next week if world No. 7 Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah should skip an upcoming tournament to recuperate.
Rosman, who officially starts his role on Nov 5, is mindful of Pearly-Thinaah's relentless schedule since their semi-final appearance at the Paris Olympics in August.
The duo have competed in all six recent top-tier World Tour events — Super 750 Japan Open, Super 500 Korea Open, Super 500 Hong Kong Open, Super 1000 China Open, Super 500 Arctic Open, and Super 750 Denmark Open — reaching three finals.
They clinched the title in Hong Kong and were runners-up in Korea and the Arctic Open in Finland.
Following their quarter-final loss at the Denmark Open in Odense, Pearly-Thinaah admitted to feeling physically and mentally drained.
They are registered for the Super 500 Kumamoto Masters (Nov 12-17) and the Super 750 China Masters (Nov 19-24) before wrapping up the year at the World Tour Finals (WTF) from Dec 11-15.
Rosman, however, plans to consult with Pearly-Thinaah to discuss possibly skipping Kumamoto.
"I realise that the non-stop competition may have taken a toll on them physically, but I need to sit down and discuss with them before deciding whether skipping Kumamoto is necessary." Rosman added.
"Skipping the Japan event would give them more recovery time and solid preparation for the China Masters, which is a mandatory tournament.
"Pearly-Thinaah are hardworking players and may still choose to compete in Kumamoto, but I need to understand their preference first."
The national No. 1 pair have already secured their spot in the WTF.
