No rest for Xin Yee who smashes from Nanchang to KL

KUALA LUMPUR: There was no rest for Ong Xin Yee as she navigated the qualifying rounds of the Malaysia Super 100 today.

She had just returned home from competing at the World Junior Championships (WJC) in Nanchang, China on Sunday.

The 17-year-old admitted that she has had little time to recover from the WJC and will take things one game at a time.

Commenting on her performance in China, Xin Yee said she was very disappointed with her display and had targeted to go further in the tournament.

The junior world No. 42 had played in the women's singles and reached the round of 16 before bowing out.

Then, she and her partner, Carmen Ting, were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the women's doubles.

"My performance at the WJC was bad, I was disappointed as I did not achieve my personal target.

"I had targeted to reach the semis in the singles and final in the women's doubles. I hope I will do better in upcoming tournaments," she said.

She began her Super 100 campaign by defeating Mexico's Cristina Perez 21-15, 21-15 in 22 minutes, at Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara.

Then she booked her place in the main draw after dispatching compatriot Sarah Ngu 21-10, 21-11 in 25 minutes.

She will next face fellow Malaysian Siti Nurshuhaini Azman - who will leave the national set-up at the end of the month after getting cut - in the first round.

"We used to train together and we know each other's game. I won't think about the match too much; I will just do my best.

"I don't really have a target in the singles for this tournament, but for the doubles I want to reach the quarters with Carmen," she added.

Ung Yi Xing will join Xin Yee in main draw after receiving a bye in the first round of qualifying and her opponent in the second round, Shan Zi conceded a walkover.

Taiwan's Huang Zih Ling defeated Tan Shen Thing to book her main draw spot, and she will be joined by Hong Kong's Liang Ka Wing after her opponent Saraporn Sombutwatthananukool, retired injured.
