KUALA LUMPUR: Men's doubles shuttler Soh Wooi Yik is not ready to return to competitions just yet though the fractured bone in his foot is healing well.
This means Wooi Yik and his partner, Aaron Chia, will miss next week's China Open.
"So far, my recovery is going well. I'm at 70 per cent right now and have received clearance to start normal training next week.
"I will slowly ease into it as my strength and fitness have naturally reduced over the one month that I have been injured, so I need to regain that.
"This means that we will miss the China Open, we have withdrawn from the tournament on Tuesday," said Wooi Yik at the Akademy Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara today.
Last week, men's doubles coach Tan Bin Shen said there was a possibility Wooi Yik could play in the Super 1000 China Open, but it depends on his injury recovery.
The 26-year-old Wooi Yik sustained the injury in the Paris Olympics semi-final against China's Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang. It got worse during the one-day break between the semis and bronze medal playoff.
Despite his injury, Wooi Yik played through the pain barrier as he and Aaron beat Denmark's Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen for the bronze medal.
"This type of injury is not like an injury to your hand or legs where you can strengthen your muscle to support it.
"You need to be patient and let the bone heal properly over time, and you can't rush it. That is why I have stopped everything for a month," added Wooi Yik who hopes to recover for the Arctic Open in Finland next month.
