KUALA LUMPUR: Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik believe their hard-fought win over Britain's Ben Lane-Sean Vendy will set them up nicely for tougher matches at the Paris Olympics.
The former world champions fought back from a first-game setback to beat the world No. 18 pair 19-21, 21-16, 21-11 in their opening men's doubles Group A match at Porte de la Chapelle Arena on Saturday.
"We showed the ability to fight back from a hiccup to win our opening match here," said an unperturbed Wooi Yik.
"In the first game, we struggled a bit and tried to fight back and shift the momentum back on our side.
"However, we could not do it. We told each other to fight on and not give away easy points, and it worked to our advantage.
"I think there were positives from this win, and we believe this has boosted our confidence."
Aaron said: "The tough win is still a good start in the Olympics. I think it will make us stronger."
In Tokyo 2020, Aaron-Wooi Yik won a bronze in an empty stadium, and the full house at the arena on Saturday threw them off a little.
"The conditions are different compared to Tokyo. There were many fans in the stands, and I felt a little up and down," Aaron added.
Aaron-Wooi Yik will face Canada's Adam Dong and Nyl Yakura in their second group match on Sunday.
