The world No. 4 had to come from behind to overcome world No. 18 Vendy-Lane 19-21, 21-16, 21- 11.
The victory was crucial in their bid to claim a top-two finish to advance to the quarter-finals.
Aaron-Wooi Yik are expected to ease past Canada's Nyl Yakura-Adam Dong of Canada in their second fixture on Sunday.
Earlier, China's top seeds Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang also enjoyed a flying start by beating Yakura-Dong 21-5, 21-12.
